Waldmünchen Coat of Arms

Shield Argent an eradicated beech Vert.
Meaning:
The name is referring to monks (German: Mönche) of the woods, who gave pastoral care to the inhabitants. It is not known for sure, which monastery had been their base. The first seal with prints since 1320 had been an oval containing a branch. The 2nd seal, used as main seal since 1352 until the 16th century, displayed an eradicated tree. Tree and branch had been canting elements, symbolising a wood (German: Wald). Literature since 1555 was based on the 2nd seal and denoted the tree as a beech. Since 1648 the tree was displayed without roots on a green base. Hefner (1862) displayed a doublemount, Siebmacher (since 1856) a triplemount in base. The current version is based on a painting of Otto Hupp.
