The MIT Sailing Pavilion, built in 1935, is the birthplace of today's collegiate sailing in MIT. The burgee of MIT Sailing is red, divided by a white "T" placed horizontally and charged with a blue star.

The description is correct in that it is a white "T" on a red field with a blue star. The "T" stands for "Tech". Here is a picture of the MIT Burgee flying at the MIT Sailing Pavilion.
