Background

The Big Five Hlabisa Local Municipality was established in August 2016 following the merger of The Big Five False Bay and Hlabisa local municipalities.  It is situated in the uMkhanyakude District Municipality of Kwazulu-Natal Province in South Africa.  The municipal headquarters are in Hlabisa, between the Hluhluwe and Umfolozi Game Reserves.

Big Five Hlabisa Local Municipality flag

The flag of the municipality is white with the municipal emblem in the centre and the name of the municipality below.  The municipal emblem contains images of the "big five", namely a lion, elephant, leopard, black rhinoceros and buffalo.  These are found in the national parks within the district.
